Research Areas

The research focus of our laboratory include a comprehensive study on the diversity and life cycles of crustacean parasites infecting the commercially exploited marine/reef/brackish/freshwater fishes along the coasts of India, molecular basis of host-parasite interaction, discovering the physiological and endocrinological networks of growth and reproduction in Malacostraca crustaceans, etc.

Specializations: Crustacean Biology and Fisheries Science)

We are particularly interested in the following aspects:

  • Cataloguing the taxonomical diversity of crustacean parasites using morphological and molecular (COI, ITS2, 18S) tools.
  • Investigating the seasonal fluctuations in the prevalence of crustacean parasites along the Indian coast.
  • Observing the morphological and microscopic evidences of major infection sites and the related physical and physiological damages in the host.
  • Evaluating the physiological and immunological responses of host fish.
  • Discovering the physiological and molecular networks of growth and reproduction in selected crustaceans.
